The Community Race has chip timing, awards in 5-year age groups, food, a participant’s toque and a festive atmosphere.
This is NOT a race to miss!
I don’t usually run cross country races, what can I expect?
This will be a fun change for you if you are only used to running road races. Cross country is exciting and you will have a blast! You will hear the announcer and the music the whole way and spectators can see you many times during the race.
The start line is much wider than a road race. The race is marked out around the outside of the Bear Mountain Golf Course using chest high ribbons to mark out a grass path about 2-3 metres wide.
The 5km course is a comprised of 3 loops (2k, 1k, 2k). Each loop has one big hill (The Mother Bear Hill) and two smaller hills, and there is a sand trap to run through each loop. You can wear trail shoes, regular running shoes or cross country spikes if you want.
